Why Rhulani Mokwena Turned Down THIS Club!
Rhulani Mokwena has revealed the name of the Premier Soccer League club who tried to hire him following his sacking from Mamelodi Sundowns.
After Mokwena was abruptly sacked on 3 July for apparently failing to meet Sundowns’ set targets, he was hired eight days later by Moroccan outfit, Wydad Athletic Club, as their new coach.
During an episode of “Sports Night Amplified” on Wednesday, 17 July, Mokwena disclosed that he had received a “good offer” from Richards Bay FC before joining Wydad, but decided to decline.
“It was a good offer from Richards Bay, but I just couldn’t stay in South Africa and go up against Sundowns as a coach,” the 37-year-old tactician told host Andile Ncube.
“One of the reasons actually why I left South Africa … I wasn’t looking forward to playing Sundowns,” he continued. “Not because of the team and things, but because of emotional connotation, and it would’ve been very difficult for me to be on the opposite bench and see some of the players.
“One of the big motivations for me was to try and leave the country because the bond that I have with some of these players would’ve made it very, very difficult for me to be on the opposite side.
